And Finally, It's Goodnight From Me...And It's Goodnight From Him... Jim Thomas

You get nothing in this life given to you on a plate. That's why you did the knowledge. You had to work and fight for that badge.

Now most drivers just sit back and do nothing but complain that no one is fighting for them.

It's no good blaming the orgs because when they've called mass demos, they've been lucky to see 20% of drivers turn up.

When Action4Cabbies asked for £20 donations...only 4,000 out of 22,000 pledge money.

Drivers complain about the LTDA and yet when asked to go to a branch meeting and vote new life into the org, only 50 drivers out of 10,000 showed up.

Every night I see drivers sitting behind touts on our ranks, young fit drivers who do and say nothing.

You've allowed small groups of individuals to take full advantage of your apathy, credit card companies and An App company have stuck their greedy fingers into your money bags and are helping themselves to part of your earning, and you say nothing.

Drivers who have never complained face to face with their org reps, now think it's a great time to join in with the enemy Union, chaired by a man who rides round reporting Taxis for over ranking and who wanted to drive an AddVan through London advertising the exploits of John Worboys

And now it's nearly all over, they say "stop with the gloom and doom" while sleep walking into a one tier system that is most certainly coming.

I predicted years ago that when the end battle came, all our leaders would have left the battlefield....I was wrong, it's the army who are deserting....

Well good night from me and God bless, it's all yours.

First they licensed Uber, and I did not speak out—
Because I was working.

Then the Trade Unionists and Taxi orgs called a mass demo, and I did not go—
Because it was busy and I had to work.

Then, after realising our largest org was doing nothing, two drivers stood up shouting and rebellious...but they were expelled—I did and said nothing, just carried on working.

Then they asked for members to go to a branch meeting to vote against Judas and his WAGs — but I didn't go as I was working

When they finally took my Badge and Bill and handed it to an Uber driver— there was no one left to fight for me.

It's NO good calling a Taxi demo on Twitter and Social media, you also need a PAPER to call a demo, delivered into the hands of the Taxi driver in person, starting at least 3 weeks before the actual demo, social media is good, but backed up by a paper insures a greater turn out.

Just a little something to keep in mind...

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

We're in this TOGETHER !!!

The very next day, TFL noticing how professional and competent the mousetrap was, decided to get in on the act. They invited a firm from America to try to carry out the same job as the Farmer's Mousetrap, but for a guaranteed percentage of the takings, thus eventually putting the Mousetrap manufacturers out of business, and having it all to themselves.

The American firm greedily took up the challenge and presented their invention to put the original mousetrap out of business.
Sadly, to cut costs, the Yanks thought that by doing away with the spring, the mousetrap would be just as good as the professional one.

One day, on a fine summer's morn, a TFL senior executive called Lying Denials went down to the farmhouse to check on the trap. Shocked he noticed the trap had been visited and the bait of cheese gone ! However, there was no Mouse in the trap ! Rubbing his chin in dismay, he shook his head in disbelief and bewilderment.
Just then, a giant mouse tapped him on the shoulder, and as Denials turned around the mouse began kicking him unmercifully around the farmhouse kitchen. Cut, bruised and covered in blood, Lying Denials begged for mercy.

Showing none, the mouse continued to batter him, and was promptly joined by 25,000 other mice, who had all lost relatives in traps gone by.
Nobody ever learnt the true fate of what happened to Lying Denials in the farmhouse, but one thing is for sure.
If your'e gonna replace a trap with a foreign imposter make sure the trap can do the job, it was supposed to do. For fux sake.

So so true. I have always said our worst enemy is not Uber or the Orgs, it's our
fellow drivers. We need to stop blaming others , when the biggest problem is on our
own doorstep .
Self destruct button we keep pushing ourselves.

Very good Semtex mate, even worth a PMSL

On a serous note, the fable, and the updated one by Semtex are true...drivers have to stop looking round and thinking it does not involve them....it does, and they know it...

I look at myself in the mirror every shift, and I see a tired man, but in those eyes I also see determination, a determination to put right what has wronged us all, but I am not the forlorn hope, I am more of the Bugler....

So when the Bugler blows the battle cry, how many will really throw themselves into it and how many will go as the forlorn hope?

Lets make this the Battle of England and Not the Battle for Rorkes Drift......

This post encapsulates my previous comments stated on Harry Walls post about the wedding dress. Unfortunately the powers that be have recognised that you are a fragmented body of self interests ie daymen nightmen airport etc and piece by piece they have picked you off whilst you infight.

You also have to consider the age demographic of the trade to see how many drivers will actually put up a fight my guess is too many are entrenched in the past and will say we have had our day and walk away. Others will have an ostrich like attitude and believe it will be alright tomorrow, so what does that leave you? What TFL have done is set up a base of over 120,000 licences that will have a different age profile, they are crowding you out, when it suits they will use an uber style platform stipulate a TX5 is the vehicle of choice and presto all basis covered with everything dumbed down no knowledge requirement as no need for it.

I sincerely hope you can keep going and wish you all the luck in the world

This depressionly accurate portrayal of our trade, and the state we are now in, only reinforces a view by so many of us that the writing is, now on the wall. This scenario of course could be very different.
At the core of our problem is our self employed status, not that we have any choice in this. Non self employed trades can afford to be more militant and United, because 1 they enjoy a higher percentage of union membership often subscribing to the same union. 2 balloting members, compelling minorities and dissenters to abide by majority decisions.
Our demise is gathering pace, the speed is frightening, but there is still a window of opportunity
Working within a framework of regulation, the driver can still enjoy an environment of individualism dictated by personal circumstances, thus allowing the driver various working permutations. Unfortunately this model is not conducive with solidarity. Those of course, who seek to destroy our trade have understood this fragmentation within, have seized the opportunity.
If those drivers, who on so many occasions have allowed a vociferous minority to put their heads above the parapet and speak for them were to take time out and stand shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the trade, the potential for success could be enormous

While we, the drivers, look at each other for reasons and excuses as to our demise, three very important details are overlooked.

1. The Government want Uber to succeed.
2. TFL want Uber to succeed
3. The public like the price, and convenience of the service they offer.

Now that some public sector bodies (The NHS) are contracting work indirectly to them, we really are behind the 8 ball.

DDD, the ITA and many other individuals and groups have worked tirelessly to get public recognition of the real facts behind this disruptive company. They deserve our admiration and thanks. But do the public care enough? I'm not certain they do.

But blaming other drivers is, quite honestly, pointless. Particularly as Uber are becoming quite entrenched and disrupting the London and national trade. Yes, many drivers bury their head in the sand. Yes, many drivers work during protests. But ask yourself, would it have made a difference if they had not? It may have dragged the fight on for a period of time, but would it have stopped the growth of this beast? Given that the powers that be support and encourage this nasty manipulative business, I think the answer is obvious.

TFL have been party to creating a business model that is so costly to us, the driver, that we can't compete with the Uber business model.

TFL want us gone, they have always wanted a single tier trade. Uber are helping them achieve that. And they are making fortunes in licensing fees along the way.

I suspect this was a fight we were always going to lose.

I'm praying for a miracle, but I'm an atheist so I can't see where this divine intervention is going to come from.

Good luck brothers and sisters. But sadly I'm out.

Ours is, or was, a regulated business.
We are, or were, the instant hire taxi.
We paid all our costs.

TFL have allowed a deregulated instant hire vehicle.
This service is subsidised by investors and tax payers.
These vehicles have saturation coverage, and are still growing.

I've been looking for a job.

Thanks to Jim, good luck to you all.

Good luck Jim. Thanks for keeping us all informed, motivated and at times entertainey. Soon there will be no need for a Taxi Leaks, who is going to follow us and do the Knowledge? Ten years time and we'll be an engangered species.

So very true but, I think the trade org have to take some responsibility.

Nothing will change untill we take on TFL via the courts? Evan if this cost One million with 25,000 drivers that about £40.00 each. Never happend? or I do it next week, or I let my mates do it. Recently I wrote something on these lines sent it to ALL the trade org the only one to reply was HATDU. May have been nonsense but what else is been done? This shows how much the org give about this trade. Theirs to many reps concerned about their self importance? Nothing will change uutill drivers STOP thinking about their selfs and think about their future. I give us a couple of years if we lucky.

You get nothing in this life given to you on a plate? unless your uber supported by a corrupt government. blaming working men trying to make ends meet is a low blow, you won't be missed

Going to court is pointless and would be a waste of your money; the Judiciary is part of the same corrupt system.
The fact that the PM and Chancellor/ Cameron/Osborne lobbied for Uber should tell you the extent of the corruption. Osborne now has a 3200k a year job with Blackrock who have £250 m Uber shares. Funny that eh?
I know the entire system is corrupt because I spent £100k on a High Court Judicial Review against TFL and got a Judge who had previously worked for TFL and ignored the evidence and contradicted a previous High Court ruling brought by the LCDC and ruled in TFLs favour.

Just in case you missed it; the entire system is CORRUPT.

The ONLY way TFL /Uber/ Johnson/Osborne/Khan will be exposed is a PUBLIC INQUIRY.

The ONLY way a Public Inquiry will happen is if Taxi Drivers protest on a daily basis calling for one.

If there is a Public Inquiry into TFL the facts will be exposed in a Judicial format and things will change.

Please, someone tell me what more has got to be done to this honorable trade of ours before we are motivated into militant and effective action

Look what wiki leaks have uncovered in America only this week, corruption right up to Obama. A corrupt news media hiding the obvious, and a dumbed down public who quite frankly don't give a fig.
We are the only people that care, yet the shits uber are getting away with it all around the world.people just want cheap today, and they don't care where it's from as long as it's cheap. We won't be valued until we are gone!!!
