Is It Too Late To Buy A TX4 Or Vito...Is The 15 Year Age Limit A OneWay Street, Or Will TfL Have To Honour.

The following post was left as an anonymous comment on previous post.

CleanAirLondon says, 2020 ULEZ will not be zero emissions, rather euro6 diesel or euro4 petrol only.

Euro5 diesel will definitely be banned post 2020 as such bans are already scheduled in parts of Germany for 2016 I think... So the 31st December 2017 trick won't work... In fact as of today it is surely too late to buy a TX4 or Vito!

Euro5 diesel is no better than Euro 3 or 4 in low speed conditions since the manufacturers gamed the Euro emissions tests that did not have a low speed city component. You've written about this before in relation to the 15 year age limit. Euro6 certification has low speed test so this should result in real benefits...

...Only to the level of petrol Euro 4. However, could have avoided the whole problem with petrol taxis.

TX4 dead as of today?
Euro5 Vito as well. If drivers want to keep vehicles for 15 years then this will not be possible with those two surely...?

I do not see how there will be any option other than petrol NV200 and then eNV200 once they release it. It is the only option that exists and is sold currently with a serious manufacturer behind it.

Karsan proposal is unlikely, note they failed to get the NYC taxi deal. Metrocab issues I've highlighted before, but credit to them for at least having working prototypes while Geely and Karsan brought hot air!

Mercedes will have to wait until next gen Vito models are released that will be euro 6 anyway or E-cell models (they have industrial agreement with Tesla for batteries) so they will more than likely have a real alternative also.

More waffle and crap from Johstone. If this really dies go ahead, I suspect even the utg are going to have to be involved in mass action. £40k plus on totally untested systems and vehicles, this is nuts.

And the 65000 minicabs???

Simon Berkett fully supports the ultra low emission zone - even though technical evidence supports that it will fail. Birkett has little understanding of emissions, mainly down to laziness and an inability to absorb technical information. He is a self promoting egotist that should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Mercedes now have a Bluemotion Hybrid in the E class that pushes out lower emissions that the two 'character cabbies' at the end of the clip!

Somehow methinks TfL etc. Are not going to invest millions into fast charge points etc and not have a method of compelling us to go electric either by rules or hopefully making the economics of it so favourable that it's a no brainer.

Still elections are looming both inside and outside the cab trade, no doubt the air will be polluted with enough false promises to make us all choke.

You know who said...

Boris Johnson said yesterday that new taxis in Central London must be capable of running free of carbon emissions by 2018 or face not being given a licence.

ULEZ coming in 2020 that's 6 years left for current Vitos/TX4 euro5 diesels.

Still want to buy a new taxi from KPM or M&O's

Boris has killed the cab

Remember what I said two years ago

MEN ARE COMING FO KILL US.

"Boris Johnson said yesterday that new taxis in Central London must be capable of running free of carbon emissions by 2018 or face not being given a licence."

It goes on to say:
"It is understood that the plans, which are part of the Mayor of London’s pledge to introduce an ultra-low emission zone in Central London by 2020, will lead to Zone 1 becoming free of carbon emissions for the first time."

They still don't know what they are talking about.
It's not the Carbon emissions that's killing people, that was a lie.
Now we are told it's the NO2, Pm10 and NOx that is the problem and new cabs are more polluting than the ones Boris scrapped under the Taxi age limit.

New electric cabs where batteries have to be replaced every couple of years, at a cost of (currently) £19,000. The drivers will not be able to afford and renting will be the only option.
Rents from garages will double over night. Ask drivers in Manchester who much they pay to rent a cab, the average is £400 a week.

Anyone buying a TX4 or Vito from now wants their brains examined. You have just 6 plates before you will no longer be able to use as a London Taxi.

The age limit saw some 22/24 year old Fairways removed from the taxi trade. With his statement yesterday Boris has removed another 20,000 vehicles from service by 2020.

The good news is Boris "The Johnson" will not be in office and quite posdibly out of politics completely. The taxi age limit was corruptly brought about by Tim Yeo MP - Boris signed off on the agenda and implemented the 15 year taxi age limit ...even though he is on record as saying he fully understood that older vehicles emit no more pollution than newer ones - this he said way before he signed off on the corrupt taxi sge limit agenda that was custom designed to make money for Tim Yeo the the chairman an major shre holder in Eco City Vehicles.
